‘BOX’ is a fictional 1980s story about four Haitian refugees who stowed aboard an industrial ocean liner seeking freedom by sealing themselves inside a large coffee container. The ghost of Henry ‘BOX’ Brown, an historical figure of a former slave who literally mailed himself to freedom in 1848, visits them. This play explores one’s desire for freedom and the determination to achieve it.

‘Box’ ran from September to October 2011 at The Midtown Theatre on West 46th Street. The production starred Kevin “dotcom” Brown of NBC’s “30 Rock”; Ayinde “I Eat Grass” Howell, Rashad Edwards, Lawrence Saint-Victor formerly of CBS’ “Guiding Light”, and Brandon Alexander.
